The Grounds

The venue for this field trial event is called “Vaerneengene” and is very geographically and biologically unique. The land was formed by the sea with sand and clay being moved, which is a continuing process. The area is important to many species. Thousands of birds breed there and it also serves as resting and feeding place for millions of migrating birds. The waters are rich with fish and shellfish and is a very popular goal for turists, as it is very different from any other landscape in Denmark.

It is protected by a Natura 2000 classification. On “Tipperne” – a part of the “Vaerneengene” hunting is not allowed, where as in others a more than 100 year old tradition of bird shooting is upheld by renting out small hunting cabins to hunters on a yearly basis for a reasonable fee. most of these privileges used to be handed down through generations. The cabins are primitive and without fresh water installation or electricity.
